DOA Course Details

DOA stands for Diploma in Ophthalmic Assistant. This course is also known as DOT (Diploma in Ophthalmic Technology). Though the course names are different, they share the same course content (almost).

 

DOA is a diploma paramedical course. As the name suggests, this course deals with ophthalmology branch of medical science. This branch of medical science deals with conditions of the eye.

 

An ophthalmic assistant works under the supervision of a qualified ophthalmologist. An ophthalmologist is an eye specialist. An ophthalmologist possesses valid degree – like MD – in ophthalmology.

 

An ophthalmic assistant or technician works under the guidance or supervision of an ophthalmologist. An ophthalmic assistant’s main task is to assist an ophthalmologist.

 

The assistant’s job comprises of activities such as – maintaining patient records, patient education, patient preparation, taking ocular measurements, operating relevant equipment etc. In order to perform these tasks, an ophthalmic assistant is trained in areas such as – basics of eye care, conditions of the eye, glasses & contact lenses, ocular measurement, operating optometry equipment, ocular anatomy etc.

 

DOA course deals with the above mentioned topics. The course trains students and turns them into skilled ophthalmic assistants/technicians. After completing this course, you will be able to work under a qualified ophthalmologist.

 

Eligibility criteria

Minimum educational qualification required to pursue DOA course is – Passed 12th Science with Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects.

 

Duration

DOA course is two years long.
