B.E./B.Tech. Automobile Engineering: Basic course details

It is a 4 years long Undergraduate Level Bachelor’s Degree program. The 4 years’ duration is divided into 8 semesters, with each semester lasting a period of 6 months. During each semester, students will have to face separate sets of theoretical subjects as well as practical lab and workshop sessions associated with those subjects.

 

Automobile Engineering focuses on topics such as design, manufacturing and working of vehicles such as cars, buses, motorcycles etc. The program focuses on tools, engines, machinery, electrical and electronics systems used in vehicles as well as in manufacturing them. Also, subjects like cost estimation, plant processes and management, CAD, safety aspects, research and development are also covered in the course.

 

Apart from subjects focusing on the topic of Automobiles and their parts, the course also contains lots of subjects and topics drawn from B.E./B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering program.

Eligibility Criteria

10+2 Science stream students, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects, who have passed 12th board examination from a recognized board are eligible to pursue this course. Students must also have taken part in State level entrance examination to be considered eligible to take part in admission process.

M.E./M.Tech. in Automobile Engineering is the best technical course that Graduates may pursue after B.E./B.Tech. Automobile Engineering program. After that, if one is interested in the field of research, then one may even go for PhD course!

 

If it is acquiring management skills that a student wants, he/she may also go for M.B.A. program.

Starting salary depends on a number of factors such as quality of the College from which the course has been pursued, academic performance, aptitude of the candidate etc. Generally it is between 3-5 Lakh Rupees per year.

    • If you are getting admission for B.Tech. Auto Engineering in a good college, go for it. Otherwise, you may pursue B.Tech. Mech engineering and follow it up with M.Tech. Automobile engineering from a good college.

I have passed 12 th science with 79% , i am very much interested in automobile engineering, but if i opt for automobile engineering then i will be specialised in that which will become an issue if ever there is any crisis for job opportunities in this sector ,,, so should i enter into this field through mechanical engineering or automobile engineering (as mechanical engineering provide far wider range of options)

    • If you are concerned about being too one dimensional, you may complete Mechanical Engineering first and then complete Master’s Automobile Engineering program.

  5. sir , i have completed 12th standard with 93% but i am very confused what course to choose, but i love bikes and cars so i am little bit interessted in automobile engineering , so here is my question , ‘is it is better to do automobile engineering in india or it is better to do in foreign’. and i wish to get a high salary, so is it is better to work in india or abroad?

    • If you pursue the course from premier institutes in India, it will be good. Foreign universities are very good, many of them. But the cost will be high. In India, automobile manufacturing industry is growing well. There’s enough scope in India. If you have required skills and patience, you may build a rewarding career here in India.

      If you are really talented, foreign companies will come looking for you.

I am Rohit.I still haven’t completed my studies.But I think automobile engineering will be a right job for me.Is there a good scope for the Job in India.?I have opinions of studying it in Usa and taking up job there.Is Usa recruiting Indian automobile engineers.Is they a good score in Usa for indian engineers? Should I go there or study it here itself.?I look forward for your kind help.

    • Rohit, if you are getting admission in a good college in India, you may stay here. But studying from a good institute in USA has its own advantages like- learning experience, international exposure and high quality study material.

    • Ranjan, is there no scope for placement in your College? If necessary, you may go for PG courses and specialize in a good discipline within the field of Automobile Engineering. Motorsport is one such field. Another good step will be to go for Management courses.

    • Raaj, it would be better to go for B.E./B.Tech. in Automobile Engineering. After completing it, you may either start looking for work or go for M.Tech. programs. A good PG course is- Motorsport Engineering.

    I had completed my 3 year diploma in automobile engineering and currently studying B.E in mechanical engineering. My major interest of job category is to become a n automobile engineer. I would be so happy if i got a job in automobile sector. But i don’t know how to get a job which i desire.. I like to work mostly in automobile intustry plants an manufacturing units… also i am interested in designing sections….i confused of taking which courses to follow up after my completion of B.E……or try to get a better job…What should i do to get a better job?….

    • Chandrakant, based on your Diploma experience, you may apply for jobs in Automobile sector. If you want to improve your chances, going for an M.Tech. course focusing on Automobile Engineering will help. Also, Computer Aided Drawing course will also be of help.
