BASLP stands for Bachelor of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology. This professional course is also known by the name of Bachelor of Audiology and Speech Language Therapy. It is a 4 years long undergraduate level professional course that Science stream students (both Mathematics and Biology group students) may pursue after completing 12th standard. BASLP: Introduction and basic course details

BASLP course consists of two main subjects- Audiology and Speech Language Pathology.

 

Audiology is the science of hearing. It deals with study of sound and balance, hearing and balance disorders and the rehabilitation of people suffering from hearing and balance disorders.

 

Speech Language Pathology is the science that deals with the study of speech, languages and disorders occurring in people (disorders related to speech and languages).

 

BASLP course makes use of the above mentioned subjects and trains students to become audiologists and speech language pathologists. The course provides professional training to students and makes them capable of preventing, identifying and treating speech, hearing and balance disorders in people. Students are also trained for rehabilitation of people suffering from the above mentioned disorders. Knowledge about state of the art hearing aids and technology is also given to students, as part of this course.

 

Duration: It is a 4 years long undergraduate level professional course. Out of the 4 years, regular classroom and practical academic activities make up 3 years. 1 year is dedicated towards internship. Combined, the course duration is of 4 years.

 

Eligibility criteria

Students who have cleared 12th Science stream board examination from a recognized board are eligible to pursue BASLP course. Both Biology and Mathematics group students are eligible to pursue it.

 

Some institutes do have the minimum marks criteria, when it comes to admission process. The minimum aggregate marks required is 50% in 12th board examination.

 

Admission: In case of reputed institutes, the admission process follows the rule of ‘merit based admission’. Seats are allotted to eligible candidates on the basis of marks scored by students in the board examination as well as entrance test (State/National/held by Institute).

  1. In 2020, is baslp course have more scope in Tamil nadu and may i know the average starting salary after baslp in low reputed hospitals….pls???????

    • All are good courses, BASLP and Optometry would be better. I’m not saying that microbiology is bad or inferior.
