Agricultural Information Technology course is a combination of Agricultural Studies and IT. In this article, we will check out information related to Agricultural Information Technology. In India, B.Tech. as well as B.Sc. Agricultural Information Technology courses are offered by some prominent Agriculture Universities. Agricultural Information Technology: Basic course details
In simple words, this course is a combination of Agricultural Studies+Engineering and Information Technology. IT is a relatively new entrant, in the field of technology. Despite it being new, IT has gone on to influence many other branches of Engineering.
These days, we are so dependent on IT that many Industries and Business sectors can’t do without it! For example- Healthcare sector, education sector, Airlines sector, Core Industries etc.
The field of Agriculture is not different either! Its productivity and effectiveness can also be increased by using technology that IT field has to offer. Thus, taking the above fact into consideration, the course of Agricultural Information Technology was designed to train students in the fields of both Agricultural sciences and IT!
The B.Tech. program is of 4 years duration and the B.Sc. course is of 3 years. Both are Undergraduate level programs and have the semester system of learning.

Those were some important subjects present in Agricultural Information Technology program. Please note that I’ve not listed all the subjects, just the important ones. Also, practical and lab sessions are also present in case of most of the above mentioned theoretical subjects.
Eligibility Criteria
10+2 Science stream students, who had both Mathematics and Biology subjects (AB Group), are eligible to pursue this course. Students must have passed 12th board examination from a recognized board. Minimum marks criteria exists and it varies from one Institute to another (usually 45-50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics subjects). Students should also have appeared for State level entrance examination too!

Scope and Job opportunities
Since this course trains students in topics of IT and Agriculture both, they will be able to take on IT oriented jobs in Agriculture sector. State wise Agriculture departments will recruit graduates to take care of Database Management, website designing, maintenance and management, software development etc. One may also work at Agriculture Institutes and Universities to take care of their IT operations. One may also venture into mainstream IT Industry (after getting training). Also, graduates may find jobs in banks, private Agriculture consultancy firms, Agricultural products marketing firms etc.
