I’m a huge fan of German football. I love everything about the country’s footballing culture! The German national team is my favorite national team and the Bundesliga is my favorite European football league. My favorite footballer and sportsperson also hails from the Bundesliga. He is none other than Robert Lewandowski.
This essay is on the topic – my favorite sportsperson and icon. My favorite sport is football. Naturally, my favorite sportsperson is a footballer. Robert Lewandowski is my favorite footballer for a reason. On the field, he is capable of scoring goals consistently. He is good at scoring goals against small as well as big teams.
As I mentioned before, I’m a huge fan of the German national team and the Bundesliga. As a child, I was hooked on football. I would play football on the streets with my friends after school hours. Even in school, we used to take part in football-related events.
In short, I have been a huge fan of football since my childhood. Even though I live in New Zealand, my ancestors are from Germany. I have a special place for Germany in my heart. Since my childhood, I’ve been watching matches of the German national team. This helped me in developing an interest in the Bundesliga – Germany’s top flight of club football.

Clubs in Bundesliga are known to perform well in European competitions as well. My favorite Bundesliga team is Bayern Munich. As of now, Robert Lewandowski is playing for my favorite club. Before that, he used to play for the rivals Borussia Dortmund. I used to admire him even during his time at Dortmund!
On the field, Robert Lewandowski is a complete striker. He has all the qualities it takes to become a world-class striker. He is one of the greatest strikers in modern football. His goal-scoring rate is terrific. I firmly believe that he deserves to win a Ballon d’Or once in his career.
As I mentioned before, he has what it takes to become a world-class striker. He is tall, athletic, strong, and cunning. He is capable of scoring with his head and both feet. He has a poacher’s instinct. Inside the opponent’s box, he has a knack for popping up in the right place at the right time. In other words, he is a cunning striker. With Robert Lewandowski in the box, opposition defenders can afford to make no mistakes at all. One simple mistake and he will punish them with a goal. He is known for scoring goals from half-chances as well as immensely difficult chances.
He is not just a striker who can score simple tap-ins. He has great strength, technique, awareness, power, and accuracy. Using his strength, he is able to hold off defenders. This allows his teammates to join the attack and score goals. He has a powerful shot. He is capable of shooting the ball with power and accuracy.
He is known for his immense work rate too. Normally, strikers of his size and stature will just play the role of a classic forward. One can’t expect much defensive work or effort from their side. But Robert Lewandowski is different! He is well known for his exceptional defensive work rate. When his team loses the ball, Robert Lewandowski is known to drop deep and vie for the ball. This helps his team to put pressure on the opposition and helps them in winning back the ball!
On the field, he is quite popular among fans. He is known for his no-nonsense style of playing. He doesn’t believe in creating a fuss on the field. He rarely loses his cool on the field. Managers and coaches laud his calmness and composure on the field.
Come, let us take a close look at his early life, career, and statistics. Robert Lewandowski was born in Warsaw, Poland. He was born into a family of athletes. His father was a Polish Judo champion. He also used to play professional football (in Poland’s second-division football). His mother is a former professional volleyball player.
Being born into a sporting family, Robert Lewandowski and his sibling were encouraged to pursue sports seriously. As a result, Robert became a professional footballer and his sister plays volleyball.
Since childhood, little Robert Lewandowski was passionate about football. His father played a crucial role in nurturing his son’s early career. In his childhood, he used to play for the local club – Partyzant Leszno. In his early career, he played for a few Polish clubs and proved his work in the second division of Polish football. His first breakthrough came when Lech Poznan came knocking on the door.
At Lech, he quickly established himself as a crucial member of the first team. He would score many crucial goals for the club. In total, he has played over eighty matches of Lech Poznan and scored over forty goals in all competitions for the club. At Lech, he has won the Ekstraklasa, Polish Cup, and Polish SuperCup.
After earning a name for himself at the Polish club, he decided to change gears and enter the second phase of his career. This time, Borussia Dortmund came knocking and he embarked on his Bundesliga journey.
He settled in well at Dortmund. He had no trouble adjusting to the competitive Bundesliga. He continued his prolific goal-scoring form at Dortmund. This made him a fan favorite at the club. Robert Lewandowski was so consistent that he was a cause of worry for Bayern fans (including myself). He would terrorize the Bayern defense alongside talented players like Gotze and Kagawa.
I very well remember his performance in the Champions League against Real Madrid. He single-handedly defeated the Spanish giant and scored impressive goals in that match. In other words, he was simply unstoppable at Dortmund. He has played over 180 matches for the club in all competitions and scored over a hundred goals for them.
He had a productive spell at Dortmund. There, he won the following titles – Bundesliga (twice), DFB Pokal, and DFB Supercup. Now comes the next phase of his career, my favorite part. After shining at Dortmund, Robert Lewandowski decided to join bitter rivals Bayern Munich. While Dortmund fans were disappointed with this move, Bayern fans were quite happy.
At Bayern, he has been simply unstoppable. He has further developed physically and technically after joining Bayern. Now he is among the best players in the modern game. He has been scoring consistently for Bayern in the Bundesliga as well as in European competitions.
His trophy collection at Bayern is quite impressive. At Bayern, he has won the Bundesliga (7 times), DFB Pokal (thrice), DFL Supercup (four times), UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup so far.
At Bayern, his goal-scoring rate has further improved. As of now, he has played over three hundred and twenty matches for the club. And he has scored over two hundred and ninety goals in all competitions for the club. With each phase in his career, his goal-scoring prowess has increased massively.
At international level, he plays for the national team of Poland. He has represented the Polish national team in competitions such as – World Cup and Euro. Off the field, Robert Lewandowski likes to lead a simple life. He is not your flashy footballer who likes to lead and loud and flashy lifestyle! Robert Lewandowski likes to keep his private life simple. He and his wife are involved in numerous philanthropic initiatives.
