Last Updated on August 10, 2023 by Vishnu Nambiar

I’ve been playing football since my childhood. It is my favorite sport. This essay is on the topic – my favorite sportsperson. My favorite sportsperson is the footballer – Antoine Griezmann.

As I mentioned before, I’ve been playing football for a very long time. As a kid, I used to play football, tennis, and basketball at local grounds and parks. But football has always been my favorite sport.

First of all, football is very easy to play. All you need is – a football and some players! One can start playing football anytime, anywhere! Unlike tennis and basketball, football doesn’t need a dedicated court. We used to play football on the streets and the local park.

Long story short, I have been playing football for quite some time now. And I play well enough to become a part of our neighborhood’s amateur football club. Each week, our club organizes practice sessions and matches with other clubs from our neighborhood.

Apart from playing football, I’m also interested in watching matches and tournaments on TV. As of now, I mostly rely on my smartphone for catching up with football news and action. EPL, La Liga, Serie A, MSL, Bundesliga – I follow major leagues across the world closely.

My favorite football club is Atletico Madrid. I follow my favorite club very closely. Earlier, I used to rely on TV for catching my beloved Atleti in action. Now, I use my smartphone for accessing content related to Atleti.

Let us talk about my idol now – Antoine Griezmann. He was born in France. Since childhood, little Antoine was interested in playing football. He started playing for his local club Macon. As a child, he would take part in trial sessions organized by big clubs in France. In one such trial session, he managed to impress the scouts of the Spanish club – Real Sociedad.

Soon, he was signed by Real Sociedad. He became a part of the club’s youth team. With hard work and perseverance, he made his way up the club’s youth system. He gradually made his team to the first team.

Antoine Griezmann caught my attention while he was playing for Real Sociedad. In his second season at Real Sociedad, he had developed into a tricky and effective forward. Once he settled down in the Real Sociedad first team, he became a lethal player!

On his day, it was very difficult to stop young Antoine. He was well known for his pace, dribbles, trickery, goal-scoring, and assisting prowess. For Real Sociedad, he scored many crucial goals and even provided crucial assists.

At one point, I even wished for Atletico Madrid to sign him! And yes, my favorite club did sign him at last! In the 2014 season, Atletico Madrid signed Antoine Griezmann from Real Sociedad. His performance at Sociedad was superb. Towards the end of his career at Sociedad, he had developed into one of the most exciting talents of La Liga. No wonder why Atletico decided to sign the youngster.

He became an integral part of the Atletico team that won the Supercopa de Espana, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Super Cup. In the 2015 season, Atletico Madrid managed to reach the final of the Champions League. Antoine played a huge role in ensuring the progress of his team to the final of the tournament.

At Atletico, he managed to win the hearts of his coaches, manager, fans, and spectators. On the field, he was quite hard-working. Atletico’s game relied on hard work, focus, and dedication. And Antoine fared well in these areas. He was known for scoring goals as well as providing assists.

Whenever the team needed some sort of creative inspiration, Griezmann was there to provide it. At Atleti, he was deployed as a striker, winger and attacking midfielder. And he possessed these qualities – pace, technique, dribbling, finishing, passing, stamina, good work rate – which helped him thrive in these roles.

In total, he has scored over 130 goals for Atletico Madrid in all competitions. In 2019, he joined the Spanish club FC Barcelona. I was disappointed by this move. Still, I continued to support him (as a player). At FC Barcelona, his performance hasn’t hit its peak yet! He is still underperforming at his new club.

As of now, he is still playing for FC Barcelona. With them, he won the Copa del Rey. Let us talk about his international career now. Due to his ancestry, Antoine was eligible to play for Germany or Portugal as well. But he chose the country of his birth – France. After seeing his performance at Real Sociedad, he was called to play for the French national team. So far, he has represented his country at major tournaments such as – World Cup and Euro. His most memorable moment with the national team came when they lifted the World Cup in 2018. Apart from that, he was also a part of the French team who were runners-up in Euro 2016.
