Essay on Cristiano Ronaldo: My Favorite Sportsperson

Cristiano Ronaldo is a legend. He is considered to be one of the greatest players of all time. Ronaldo is regarded as one of the two best players of his generation, alongside Lionel Messi. but my Favorite Sportsperson is Ronaldo personally.

Let me point out some of the individual honors achieved by Cristiano Ronaldo – won Ballon d’Or (5 times), FIFA World Player of the Year, UEFA Best Player in Europe (3 times), European Golden Shoe (4 times), FIFA Puskas Award, Premier League Golden Boot, La Liga Best Player, Pichichi Trophy (3 times), Serie A Topscorer.

These are just some of the individual accolades won by him. The whole list will be much longer. Okay, let me list down some of the popular team honors won by him – English Premier League (3 times), UEFA Champions League (5 times), La Liga (2 times), Serie A (2 times), FIFA Club World Cup (4 times).

These awards, honors, and trophies speak a lot about his greatness. Having won the Ballon d’Or 5 times, he is a true legend of the game.

My favorite club is Real Madrid. And I became a fan of Cristiano while he was playing for Real Madrid. As of now, he is playing for Juventus. Still, I love and admire him. He is an inspiration for fans and spectators.

Real Madrid signed Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009. It was a world record transfer at that time. At Real, he was provided the number nine jersey. In his first season at Real Madrid, he scored 33 goals in all competitions. He proved the fact that he is well worth the record transfer fee that Real spent on him.

After the first season, he worked a lot on his game. He even focused on improving physically. He soon got his number seven jersey at Real. In the second season, he scored 53 goals in all competitions for Real Madrid. Cristiano impressed coaches, fans, pundits, and football fans by scoring 60-plus goals in all competitions on two occasions. Cristiano and Messi regularly scored 50+ goals for multiple reasons.

These guys made it look so simple. But the reality is that they were simply better than other strikers. They were well-prepared, talented, creative, and determined on the field. In total Cristiano has scored around 450 goals for Real Madrid in all competitions (in around 438 matches). Yes, he had an incredible strike rate at Real!

On many match days, he would score goals and hat-tricks for fun! With Real, he has won La Liga two times and the UEFA Champions League four times. He played an integral role in Real lifting their tenth Champions League trophy (La Decima).

At Real, he was so good that he even received the Ballon d’Or four times (while at Real). After spending amazing seasons at Real, he decided to take up a new challenge. This is how he signed for Serie A giants Juventus.

He had no trouble settling down at Juventus. He adapted to the physical Serie A quite easily. In his first season at Juventus, he scored 28 goals in all competitions. In the following seasons, he improved his goal tally vastly. In total, he has scored over 100 goals for Juventus in all competitions. Despite Serie A being a physically demanding league, he has managed to maintain a very good strike rate.

As of now, he has won the Serie A twice with Juventus. Apart from that, he has also won domestic cups and trophies in Italy. He is still playing for Juventus. In the coming seasons, he will surely score more goals for the team. And there is a good chance that he will win more titles and cups with the team.

Okay, I’ve been talking a lot about his Real Madrid and Juventus days. Let me focus more on Cristiano’s early days and career now. Cristiano Ronaldo was born in Madeira, Portugal. He had a tough childhood. As a child, he used to share a room with his siblings.

From a very young age, Cristiano was interested in football. His first breakthrough came when he was signed by the Portuguese club Sporting CP. He was twelve years old back then. To his family’s shock, young Cristiano was diagnosed with a condition known as a racing heart. He successfully underwent an operation to correct this condition.

At Sporting CP, Cristiano managed to impress the coaching staff. They were so impressed that they placed him on a fast-track program. As a result, he rose through the club’s various age-related groups in a single season. By 2002, he became part of the Club’s first team.

In a match between Sporting CP and Manchester United, Cristiano managed to impress Sir Alex Ferguson with his performance. In that match, Cristiano displayed his trickery, pace, passing, vision, and other qualities. Sporting defeated Manchester United. Ronaldo’s performance convinced Sir Alex Ferguson to sign the youngster. At Man Utd, he was given the number seven shirt, previously worn by club legends such as – Eric Cantona, David Beckham, and George Best.

The English Premier League is one the toughest and most competitive leagues in the world. And the young boy from Portugal had no trouble in settling down in EPL. His trickery, speed, and passes caused all types of trouble for defenders.

In order to tackle the physical nature of EPL, Cristiano worked on his physique. He trained his body and developed muscle mass. This vastly improved his performance in EPL. After getting bigger, he was able to deal with the physical aspect of EPL.   With Manchester United, he has won the Premier League three times, the UEFA Champions League, and other domestic cups and trophies. If you ask me, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are in a league of their own. They constantly push each other and this motivates them to test their limits in the process.

Let us talk about his international career now. He has represented Portugal in major tournaments such as – World Cup and Euro. The highest point of his international career came when he captained his Portugal side to victory in Euro 2016. His side beat France in the final against all odds.

On the field, he is a versatile attacker. In the early stages of his career, he was a tricky winger. He used his pace and trickery to beat defenders. He could score goals, make crucial passes, and put dangerous crosses into the box.

He has also been utilized as a forward and striker by managers. Some of his managers gave Cristiano the freedom to play freely in the forward line. This allowed him to start on the wings, cut in and score goals or provide assists.

I’m more than just a fan of Cristiano. I look up to him for inspiration. The thin teenager from Portugal took the EPL by storm. When defenders chopped him down with tough tackles, he didn’t accept defeat. Instead of that, he worked on his physique and this helped him brave the physically demanding league.

He believes in taking care of his body. Even at this age, he is physically fit and performing at the highest level. Youngsters have a lot to learn from him. Professionalism, determination, willingness to work hard, and discipline – are some of his positive qualities, which we all must develop in our lives.
