I enjoy watching and playing football. Football is not just a sport for me. It is an emotion, to be honest. I simply enjoy playing and watching the beautiful game. Naturally, my favorite sportsperson is a footballer. He is Luka Modric. This essay is dedicated to my idol Luka Modric.
I fell in love with this game in my childhood. Since childhood, I’ve been following various football leagues, tournaments, and events. With time, many talented footballers have managed to grab my attention. Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Paul Pogba, Harry Kane – these are some such players. But Luka Modric will always have a special place in my heart. He is my favorite footballer and source of inspiration.
Why is Luka my favorite footballer, some of you may ask. Well, his qualities on and off the field have impressed me. We will take a close look at these qualities in this essay. Before that, let me quickly note down the timeline of his career.
Luka was born in Croatia. Back then, his place of birth was part of the SFR Yugoslavia. His parents worked in a knitwear factory. In short, he wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth!
During his childhood, the Croatian War of Independence had started. The war forced his family to flee his home. They lived as refugees for many years. Little Luka cared little about the war. Even during those tough times, children used to play football to escape from the harsh reality and tough conditions.
The first big club that he signed for was – Dinamo Zagreb. At Zagreb, he established himself as one of the key players. He donned the role of an attacking midfielder at the club and provided numerous assists. He even scored a decent amount of goals each year.
After shining for the Zagreb club, he was signed by the English club – Tottenham Hotspur. He adapted well to the playing style of his new club. The English Premier League was a new challenge for him rose to this challenge and did really well in the league.
Soon, he became one of the most integral members of the team. Under his midfield masterclass, Spurs managed to perform well in the league and other tournaments. This attracted the attention of the big clubs. And with time, he joined Real Madrid.
He helped Real win their tenth Champions League title. In the following years, he managed to win many more Champions League titles with the club. As of now, he is considered to be one of the best midfielders of his generation.
Another highlight of his career is the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament. Croatia’s talented squad surprised us all and managed to reach the final of the tournament. As usual, Luka put on a splendid show in the midfield throughout the tournament.
I believe that the tough childhood made him a tough man! Here are the off-field qualities that I adore the most – humbleness, desire to keep a low profile, honesty, etc. On the field, he is well known for his creativity, vision, passing ability, stamina, etc. Despite his size, he played exceptionally well in physically demanding leagues such as in Croatia and England!
